Ask anyone in Colorado Springs why their driveway cracked and heaved and the answer is almost always what was under it. Clay soils in parts of the county swell when wet and shrink when dry, and a slab poured on unprepared ground moves with them. We fix that before the truck shows up: excavate, bring in the right base material, compact it, and reinforce the slab.

Winter matters too. Water gets into concrete, freezes, expands and pops the surface. An air-entrained mix gives that water room to freeze without spalling, and a proper cure keeps the surface tight. Skip de-icing salt the first winter and a good slab will look new for years.

Footings and piers are the quiet part of the business: deck footings, fence-post piers, pole barn and shop foundations set below frost depth per Pikes Peak Regional Building Department requirements. If it holds something up, it gets done to spec.

Concrete questions, answered.

Spring through fall is ideal. We can pour in cold weather with blankets and accelerators when the forecast cooperates, but we'll never pour into a freeze just to hit a date.

It depends on the slab. Driveways and structural pads get rebar on chairs; some flatwork uses fiber or mesh. We'll spec reinforcement for what the slab has to carry, and we'll tell you why.

Poor base prep and expansive soils, mostly, plus freeze-thaw. Control joints tell the slab where to crack so it happens invisibly at the joint instead of across the middle. Prep and joints are where we spend our time.

Keep vehicles off for about a week; concrete reaches most of its design strength at 28 days. We'll give you a written cure and sealing schedule when we finish.
